Help Support Seniors – Wheels for Meals Ride – October 22, 2011

Two of our passions rolled into one event!  Helping seniors and our love of bike riding in the great outdoors, right here in our own back yard.

Join us and our son Bryce on the 3rd Annual Wheels for Meals Ride through the beautiful Livermore Valley – http://www.wheelsformealsride.com

The ride starts in Pleasanton at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Park and finishes there with a Tasty BBQ Lunch, Live Music and Treats from Sunshine Susan’s Solar Powered Ice Cream Parlor!

The proceeds from this event support the Meals on Wheels programs in Alameda County, providing warm, home delivered meals to homebound seniors every day. Each delivery brings a nutritious meal and a caring check-in, reassuring seniors and their families that someone will knock on their door every day to ensure that the senior is living safely at home, where they want to be.

• $120 feeds a senior for one month
• $720 feeds a senior for six months
• $1,440 feeds a senior for one year!

The Meals on Wheels Need:

  • Nationally, 1 in 9 seniors experience hunger each day.
  • More than 2/3 of our seniors live alone.
  • The overwhelming majority live on $1,000 or less of monthly income.
  • More than 2/3 of MOW clients are over the age of 75 and the fastest growing population are over 85.
  • For the cost of one day in the hospital, Meals on Wheels programs can provide services for an entire year.
  • Each delivery day, friendly drivers deliver nutritious meals to over 2,000 seniors in Alameda County.
  • The daily caring check-in ensures a senior is well, and reduces isolation and loneliness.
